A Different Jewelry Blog

Hi! I created a new blog for my one-off designs and you can find them at http://statementjewelry.blogspot.com

I am still conceptualizing the Jewel Box Ballerina as a different jewelry line. This line would focus more on my affinity to dainty little things....think cherry blossoms, cotton candy, and marshmallows...sweet, light, and pretty.

Please visit my other blog: http://statementjewelry.blogspot.com for my experimental and one-off designs.

Bead Organization Day

Today was my bead organization day. My work area started to look sad from all the clutter. So after my dad's and my brother's prodding, I started sorting and organizing my beads. I'm almost done and I'm excited to design again!

Yesterday, I gave some jewelry making tutorial to my nephew's nanny. She had a great time making a set of earrings and a bracelet. Since she's just going to house sit at my brother-in-law's house, she has a lot of free time to create accessories. I'm pretty excited to see what she designed the next time we meet.

Lydia Courteille Part 2

I've seen a lot of skull jewellery in the past but I found Lydia Courteille's interpretation to be the prettiest.

Tuesday, May 12, 2009

Just got home from the mall. I bought Solitaire Magazine... It's a magazine for jewellers, connoisseurs and collectors. They showcase the latest and the boldest (and the obscenely expensive) jewellery. Here are some of Lydia Courteille's creations...(pardon the dress and the shoes... they just looked adorable with those hoops and rings) :

My First Collection

Jewelry Collection - I'm excited on creating my first themed collection. Right now I'm fixated with the color black that has color accents like yellow, purple, green, red, and pink...like a daybreak where the first spark of daylight pierces the darkness of the night. My collection will be finished by June before I go to Singapore and visit my big brother. I can't believe that I'm really a jewelry designer!

Fantasy Derivations: Nolcha's New York Fashion Week

Right now, I'm thinking about how to be in the Nolcha New York Fashion Week. I'm perfectly clueless in the Fashion Scene. All I know is to create pretty and shiny things that goes well with a woman's wrists, neck, ears and hair. Hmmm... think think think. I guess for now I'll just keep on building my portfolio and make myself more and more skilled with jewelry and photography till my ship comes.

Not for the Virgin Cuff Bracelet Wearer

It's humongous. It's traffic stopping. It's agate, turquoise, glass beads and wire...on steroids.

Day 5: Green Necklace with Jasper, Jade, and Smoky Quartz, and Clear Quartz Crystals

I made this green necklace last June 2008. I used some big jasper stones as the focal points and the rest were smoky quartz, clear quartz, and Jade.

Day 4: Green Necklace with Jade, Citrine, Jasper, Quartz, Shells, and Peridot Stones

I gave this necklace to my aunt in California as a present. I used shells, peridot, jade, jasper, quartz, and citrine stones/crystals. This is one of the most minimalistic among my designs. I like combining different shapes and textures in my one of a kind pieces.

Day 3 : Bracelets

Prior to my diva awakening, I used to create these simple/humble designs made up of glass beads, faux pearls, and cloistone beads. Aren't they cute?

I almost forgot...I went to Quiapo, Manila today to find my wires and crystal beads. Miraculously, I only bought what I needed. Bead shopping in Quiapo could be overwhelming to a novice jewellery designer. The place has a marvelous palette of crystal beads, glass beads, pearls, and plastic beads. Almost everything is pretty and shiny. One should learn to plan ahead on which type of colors or designs you wish to create since the place is very conducive to compulsive shopping. Going back to my bead finds, I was able to buy some amethyst crystals and sadly, some quartz crystals dyed by some sneaky business people in China (I'm currently removing the excess dye so they would be shinier too).

Day 7: Pink Flower Necklace with Shells, Pearls, Citrine, Lapis Lazuli, Quartz, Jasper, and Green Stones

This necklace is perfect for that flowy cream islet summer dresses. I know it's already fall in some parts of the world but here in the tropics, bright colors are abundant year round.

Day 6: Purple Brooch with shells, Quartz, Rose Quartz, mother of pearl, pearl, citrine, and amethyst

I made this dainty little brooch as a push present for my nephew's teacher in Australia. My sister is one of the most thoughtful people in the world. She requested that I create something for my nephew's preggy teacher and a red and black bracelet for my nephew's teacher aide. I'm glad they liked it.

I'm still star struck right now. I got an email from my favourite author, Joe Vitale thanking me for sending him a letter. Right now, I'm thinking on how I'll design a brooch for his lovely wife.

Day 12: Black and Red Necklace with Black Glass, Rubies, Garnet, Corals, and Hematite

I made this necklace as a present for my sister-in-law. This necklace is the heaviest one I made. This piece made me fall in love with rubies and garnets. The garnet seems like a black crystal but when you take a closer look at it, it is reddish in color. I don't know but I'm usually drawn to garnets these days. I already have more appreciation with rubies. Before, I associate rubies with boring fine jewelry. Now, I see a ruby on costume jewelry as a vibrant and a lively touch of red.

Days 10 &11: White Neclace and Yellow Neclace with Shells, Turquoise, and Cherry Quartz

I had my Licensure Exam for Teachers for the whole day yesterday. That was quite a nosebleed but I'm really relieved that it's over. I can now focus more on my designs not worrying if I still have time to review.

Day 10: White Necklace

In this necklace, I used glass, pearls, and some quartz crystals.
model: Julie

Day 11: This bib necklace had a crazy combination of Yellow shells, blue turquoise, and orange cherry. quartz.

Days 13, 14 & 15: Purple Necklaces and a White Cuff Bracelet

I wasn't able to take pictures of my creations the past days since I heavily rely on natural lighting.

Day 13: Purple Necklace

This Necklace is made up of steel wire, faux pearls, and glass beads.

Day 14: Purple Necklace
This necklace had an exaggerated amount of twisting and twirling. I used glass beads, an amethyst and some mother of pearls in this piece.

Day 15: White Cuff
This cuff is made up of steel and glass beads.

Past Designs Part 1

I haven't taken the pictures of my new designs... In my other blog, http://gemcaviar.blogspot.com , I showcased my designs for the past year. I'll just repost my former blog entries here:

Saturday, October 18, 2008

I used a lot of pink glass in this bold cuff. Pink is my favourite colour. It's actually the color of my room. Hehe.

Day 19: Revenge of the Green Fairy

I made a green cuff and it reminds me of the green fairy that comes out when you drink Absinthe.

Tuesday, October 7, 2008

Day 18: Green Jade Brooch

I made this brooch as a present to one of my favourite authors. Actually, it's for his lovely wife. It would look really lovely on a plain dress or on a blazer. Mom criticized my work as heavy. Well if everything in fashion is practical, there wouldn't be stilettos.
